What I am reading, or about to read, right now (either on the iPad or in dead-tree form).
Zone One – Colson Whitehead. A “literary” zombie book with a fresh take on the zombie mythology, doing for zombies what The Passage did for vampires.
Blood Meridian – Cormac McCarthy. Rereading this one, but McCarthy must be recognized as one of the best American writers in the last 100 years. Lyrical yet tough.
Imaginary Line – Life on an Unfinished Border – Jacques Poitras. The NB journalist and writer takes a look at what the line between Maine and New Brunswick means to our collective culture, economy and psyche.
Steve Jobs – Walter Isaacson – the official biography was rushed into sales a few weeks early follow Jobs’ death. Haven’t cracked it yet, but have seen plenty of snippets online and the author interviewed everywhere. Looking forward to learning what drove the innovator.
The Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway – Ernest Hemingway. Sure it is predictable, event trite, for a middle class white guy to love Hemingway. But read “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber” again and you are reminded that old Ernie was a truly great writer.
